Dallas Public Library

dallas public library

The Dallas Library/Senior Center project presented the challenge of transforming an aging auto repair shop originally built in 1925 into a new 7,500 SF public library facility that would be a source of pride for the entire community. RSA responded by outfitting the building with a new civic-minded facade and completely renovating the interior space. Another challenge met was the need to accommodate joint use of the building for library and senior center functions with the shared common areas. The plan separates the library and senior center functions where appropriate, and provides primary entrances for both programs from the street and the alley. Much of the success of the project can be attributed to the participation of the architects and community advisory committee in interactive planning sessions throughout the design process.
