Planned Parenthood’s Regional Health and Education Center consolidated clinical and administrative functions from dispersed facilities in the Eugene/Springfield area. The goal of this LEED Silver project was to provide a safe, healthy, and pleasant environment for staff and visitors. The exterior balances a response to the simple and industrial character of the area with a playful use of form and color. The street side form is kept simple to give a strong, protective presence, while the south side form opens up to more effectively respond to daylight needs. The site dedicates large areas to landscaped rain gardens to provide beautiful areas and treat and retain all of the storm water on the site. Storm water volumes are managed by a vegetated roof on a portion of the building and a rainwater harvesting system that stores water for toilet flushing use.
