Libraries

Robertson l Sherwood l Architects' experience with library design is extensive, ranging from adaptive reuse of existing commercial storefronts to the $34 million Eugene Public Library (Main Branch). In each instance, the designs addressed the challenge of satisfying the functional demands of an up-to-date library while meeting the goals of service and comfort to all users.

Our experience has provided us with a keen understanding and working knowledge of public libraries. We are particularly attentive to their unique nature and special needs. We're also aware of the rapidly changing role of the public library. Libraries are transitioning from centers of information to centers of culture, ones that tap into the spirit of the communities they serve. The key to designing a successful library in the 21st century is to plan with change in mind, to provide creative spaces, so that the future library can define itself.
